Applique Wax Instructions

For best results read instructions carefully before starting.

You can decorate any smooth-surface candle with almost any design you can think of: Cartoon characters, flowers, seahorses, family crests, Teddy bears and more.

Wax sheets are available in the following colours: Cream, Yellow, Orange, Apricot, Bright Red, Red, Burgundy, Lilac, Lavender, Dark Purple, Deep Bright Pink, Rose Pink, Skin Pink, Marine Blue, Mid Blue, baby Blue, Gumleaf Green, Teal, Tree Green, Grass Green, Forest Green, White, Black, Ochre, Brown, Matt Gold/Bronze, Matt Silver. Metallic: Gold, Silver, Old Gold, Platinum.

Decorative Wax Sheets

Tools:

Sharp Knife (metal biscuit cutters can be used), Sharp Pencil with rounded end or pen, Greaseproof or Tracing Paper, Hairdryer (optional, use with great care), Warm Kitchen Plate, Cutting Board, Smooth Surfaced Candle

Method

WIPE candle with dishwashing soap and tepid water. DRY with a soft, clean cloth. (This removes excess fat and dust.)

TRACE your design onto greaseproof paper. This is your pattern sheet.

PLACE pattern onto decorative wax sheet. USE a pencil to trace pattern onto the wax. Remove pattern and CUT out design in the wax.

REMOVE the backing sheet from wax and SEPARATE the pieces.

PLACE the wax pieces on more greaseproof paper, and TRANSFER the paper and wax to a warm plate. (This lightly sticks the wax to the paper, allowing you to put the design on to the candle.) NOTE: in warm weather, the plate does not have to be warmed.

PUT design (wax and paper) onto the candle. With fingers or palm, gently but firmly PRESS to make wax stick to candle. Fingernails and excessive pressure can mark and ruin the decorative wax. Use care.

USE a hairdryer ON LOW to "set" design: lightly fan candle with hairdryer. NOTE: in warm weather, do not use a hairdryer. Allow to COOL slightly before pressing any edges that are not adhered.
